Argh, another Monday. Why do the weekends have to go by so quickly? And like always, I put off everything I was supposed to do over the weekend until today so this Monday has a double whammy against it. But what am I doing instead of sewing right now...writing on my blog. Are you seeing the trend here?

Just in case anyone else is feeling gloomy about Monday too: Orisinal and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends I promise it'll lighten you mood! Friday, August 27, 2004
Funny thing happened last night...we won a pool table! The strange thing thing is that a couple of weeks ago we decided to move all our living room furniture to another room so that we could make the living room a Game Room. We put all the Muppet toys in the new Game room as well as the dart board and all my books. There was a large open space in the middle of the room, just waiting for us to save up money for a pool table...and then, Jim goes and wins one!

I have a feeling it's going to be a good weekend! Other Things That Make Me Smile (curtesy of the Renegade Craft Fair Vendor list) - Atomic Mama's Embroidered Towels: I absolutely love the baby stuff too but won't be needing it for a while! - Alli's Oddities: Don't forget to check out the gallery, she's amazing! - Alison Rose: the Carb tee is perfect for me Thursday, August 26, 2004
Whew, got through the first week of classes! Actually, I'm exaggerating...this semester is going to be a breeze since I'm taking really easy classes and only going on Tues. and Thurs. Unfortunately, I have an hour commute each way so the drive is going to be what kills me. Oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do, right?

I'm taking this fun Fashion Marketing class. I'm excited, we're going to have to do sketches and case studies. It was weird going to the bookstore and wanting to buy the books for other CTFM (Clothing, Textiles and Fashion Marketing) classes. There was this great "Everything You Could Possibly Need to Know About Sewing" book for one of the other classes. Too bad I had to drop 100 bucks on the stupid Chemistry book. I've been meaning to go by the Public Library to check out a few books on tape. I love to listen to them while I sew and now with me having 2 hours quality time with my car twice a week, getting them makes even more sense. I've been meaning to get the Bill Clinton book (with him reading it, of course)...should be interesting. Today, however, was a 100% Rilo Kiley day...and what a very good day it was. So, whadda think about the new layout? Eventually I'd like for my website to match...all in due time, I guess. It really is pathetic how much time I can waste on the computer when I have a million other things to be doing.

Ok, another real quick post:

Yesterday Jim tells me that his place of employment was contacted by The History Channel to do a shoot here in El Paso. It's always fun when a national broadcast company contacts them because 1. It usually involves some interesting story (i.e. The Daily Show bit on the "universal stupidity" of Alpine TX) 2. It looks good on his resume. He's always pretty eager to share such information with me because he knows I'll always be really excited for him. Not yesterday. Here's a brief excerpt from our conversation: J: So, I forgot to tell you...The History Channel contacted us today. V: Oh really? That's pretty cool. J: Yeah, they called about a shoot this weekend. V: Oh, is it out of town? J: Nope V: That's good. Is it all weekend? J: Nah, just Saturday V: Um, are you going to do it? (wondering at this point why he's not more excited about this) J: Uhhh, I dunno. V: What's the problem with it? (cutting to the chase) J: I guess there's a group here that do exorcisms... V: ack J: and they want us to go film one. Ugh, eww. First of all the rational 26 year old in me knows that most supernatural events in life have a fully scientific explanation to them but the 7 year old Catholic school girl isn't so easily swayed. It's kinda similar to why I don't like to have any extremities hang off the bed...you know there's nothing there but you'll just sleep better if you avoid the situation all together. We'll see... Well, shoot...I really should be sewing right now but blogging never seems to be as much fun as when you're using it to procrastinate. Guess I'll be good and keep it short:

Thoroughly Enjoyable Shops To Squander My Time At: - Luka: Mmm, Candy Drops and Donna! - April Fool: The Green and Baby Blue Wallet is ridiculously cute! - Glamscience: I wish I was better at sending cards...maybe these would help! - Biondetta: I'm of the mind "less is more" when it comes to perfume. I'm tempted to try out the PrincessRoo Honeysuckle and one of the Coconut flavors...has anyone had a honeysuckle fragrance? Does it smell good as a perfume? - Rainy Sunday: This shop makes me want to get all my pictures in order! Ok, that's enough exclamation points for one day! Friday, August 13, 2004WARNING: The following entry is yet another post about Vanessa's continuing love affair with Autumn. There will be more as the season approaches. You have been warned. I started thinking about Halloween after reading She's So Unusual and well, I thought I'd talk a bit about it. For the past six years or so, my husband and his good friend have entered a local radio station's Halloween Parade. First year it was The Wizard of Oz, then Star Wars, Superheros, and then Scooby Doo. A few years back we did Gilligan's Island (I got to be Mary Ann!) and then last year we made a Nightmare Before Christmas float (I got to be Sally!). We usually start working the first of October and by the 31st, we've got a full on float and fun costumes. This year we've decided to do a Super Mario Bros. theme. We haven't even drawn the layout but we've talked about big yellow blocks with question marks, some Koopa Troopas (the turtles), and definitely some mushrooms! It's going to be interesting trying to sew up the Princess' dress. I love Fall! Wednesday, August 11, 2004
Well, everyone got back safe and sound from our trek out to Lubbock for my sister's wedding. The bride looked stunning, the groom was handsome and I cried like a baby. Thought you guys might want to see some pictures: http://www.gerberadesigns.com/wedding_main.html

The reason I couldn't go to Lubbock:

I had to stay in town so that I could sign at the bank for our new car, a 1974 VW Thing. Isn't it a silly car?! There's a list of things we need to work on but we're really excited about learning how to up-keep the engine and such. We've been driving it around all weekend and while it's a bit more difficult than your average car, it's a lot more fun to drive!
