Sweet Dreams Bath Bombs

Materials Needed:
· 2 T Citric Acid
· 2 T Cornstarch
· 1/4 c baking soda
· 1/4 t fragrance oil
· 3 T Coconut Oil ( or any other emollient oil like Almond Oil, Avocado Oil, or Apricot Kernel Oil)
· decorated container (I used a candle holder)

Procedure:
1. Place all of the dry ingredients into a bowl and mix well.
2. In a small glass bowl combine oil with fragrance.
3. Slowly add oil mixture to dry ingredients and blend well.
4. Take truffle sized scoops of the mixture and shape into balls. Balls should be about 1" in diameter. Let balls rest on a sheet of waxed paper for 2 - 3 hours.
5. Let the bombs dry and harden for 24 - 48 hours.
6. Store bombs in a decorated closed container.
7. To use - drop 1 - 3 into warm bath water.

I started this Star Wars X-Wing embroidery while waiting in line for Episode 3 and just now have gotten around to finishing it. Definitely not the best made pillow in the world but it'll do.

Last week, at the Thrift Store, I found this adorable children's bedspread. I don't have children, nor am I planning on having any in the near future but I just couldn't pass it up! When I showed it to Jim he said it kinda weirded him out. Guess he has issues with puppets.

How cute is the little bear with the sun balloon?! The whole thing reminds me of My Paper Crane.

Here are some more pictures, any suggestions on what to do with it?

I bought a ton of Yoko Ono Poms the other day for a small get together we were having. I love the "Kermit-ness" of them! And since they're so cheap, you can buy a bunch and separate them into different vases in different rooms.

I pulled out the Fishy Vase I had made at least three years ago. I was kinda surprised to see it had held up to the time and elements.

I think I posted this project on Craftster when it first opened (wow, look how it's grown! Craftster, that is, not the fish) . It's a really easy project: you print out a fish image onto tattoo printer paper and then apply the tattoo to the outside of a vase. Protect the image with a couple coats of a strong varnish and you're good to go!

I always wanted to try other images on vases, like swimming sea monkeys or something. Maybe one day.

A couple months ago my Mom and I decided to check out At The Clayground, a new ceramic painting place on the westside. The kind of place where you pick out your piece, paint it and they fire and glaze it for you to pick up later. My mother wasn't surprised when I turned the cupcake around to show her the little smiley face I had added.

There was a soft-serve cone that I wanted to do buy too but when I went back a couple weeks ago, they were all gone. :0(

So, I'm on a bit of a tea kick right now. If you remember a few posts ago, I had bought some loose tea as well as two strainers from Herb and Ginger and well, that just opened the flood gate to all sorts of yummy teas. I was pleasently surprised to find some organic Wuyi Oolong and Jamaica Red Bush at The Brown Recluse (a small coffee shop in Marfa) on Tuesday. I don't have a website for their tea but their Big Bend Coffee has quite the following.

QUILT UPDATE: sewed all the panels together yesterday and assembled the quilt only to find that none of the sides were the same length and it didn't lay flat, grr. Going to have to take in the seams a bit more in order to make it a perfect square.

It's now laying out on the pool table because I don't even want to look at that stupid thing.

Inspired in part by Brandy's fabulous quilty goodness, I decided to try my hand at making a baby quilt. These are the fabrics and the flowers will be the center panels. I've only got one week to make it, eek!

I hope she doesn't think, "Oh great, another handmade something from Vanessa." I can't help it though. When I think of special gifts, I always think handmade.

I was so excited to hear that Laurie was pregnant. She was the first close friend to be expecting and I wished I was closer to her to share in her excitement. I went a bit crazy buying all kinds of fun indie gifts for Baby Belle (Sweet Pea tee from Glamscience, Baby Spoon from Beaded thing and so on!) For her baptism, I wanted to do something special and this is what I came up with...hope she likes it!

Ah, Jim bought tickets to see Willie Nelson in Alpine last night as a part Birthday, part Valentine's Day gift. He was absolutely wonderful! There were rumors about the state of his health last year but it's nice to see he's bounced back with flying colors. Mr. Dan Rathers was there as well commemorating the creation of Marfa's new public radio station.

I'm not sure which I loved more: seeing Willie Nelson or going on a mini vacation in the middle of the week. The 3 hour drive back and forth was nothing, we listened to Podcasts for the most part. I love Dawn and Drew.

Wanna see more Willie?

Since we just happened to be passing through Valentine, Tx on our way to see Willie in Alpine, figured it would be kinda cute to send out cards from there. I know, faces on inanimate objects is overused but it's just so much fun to draw.

Whee, only 10 more hours before Willie and I have a date with destiny!

Open Road

We finally made our way to Marfa, Tx a couple weekends ago. It's a small town about 3 hours outside of El Paso that has become very popular in the art scene. I'll make sure to post a pic and talk about the Chinati Foundation in the future.

If anyone is in the area, I highly suggest you check it out. The town is quite small and only has a few restaurants and even fewer hotels but spending a Saturday walking in and out of galleries was great. Definitely go when the weather is warmer though.

Marfa, The Mini-Vacation, marked a milestone in the development of Zefram. We decided to bring him with us and he behaved like a seasoned travel pup! Nothing like walking to a small cafe and eating waffles on the patio with a golden by your feet.

It really is the little things.

May look good but...

Made Candy Sushi for a Pre-Wedding Cocktail Party we threw for some friends a while ago. They're made with a small cupcake, frosting with tons of coconut in it, cut up gummy worms and fruit roll-ups. They looked really cute but were way too sweet. Made for a cute picture though!

Mmm, tea!

I got my Herb & Ginger package and I'm currently enjoying a cup of Peach-icot Fruit Tea (wanted to use up the great samples before I dived into my personal stash). Highly highly highly recommend it!

I wonder if they have a sampler where you could get a little bit of all their teas to test which ones you like the most. I had the hardest time deciding which to choose since they all sounded so tasty.

I'll be attending a baby baptism for a best friend and I'm at a complete loss as to what would be a good gift. I don't want to do anything strongly religious but I would like the gift to be somewhat inspirational and sweet. Something that would get across that Jim and I
wish the world for this sweet little baby girl. Maybe some sort of engraved something? Any ideas?

This is definitely one of my favorite things on my table right now! Leah from Uplifting Arts sent it along with a French Press, two cute mugs and great coffee. I don't know if you can tell but it has little butterflies all over it. Isn't she great?!
........................................

In honor of my 28th year on this planet (technically next Tuesday but who's counting), I finally placed an order with Herb and Ginger. Mmm, ordered the Queen's Caramel Rooibos Tea and the Hawaiian Vacation Rooibos Tea. I'm a sucka for coconut. We needed new strainers badly and
luckily they were having a sale on their Strainer Duo. So excited to get my package!

I refuse to feel the least bit guilty about buying myself a birthday gift.
