Mouse Trap Gallery Wall Tutorial & Video

Mouse Trap Gallery Tutorial | A Tried & True ProjectOn Monday I shared with you the tutorial for making a 15 Minute Mouse Trap Clip and so today I’m back to show you exactly how I put the clip to use in my craft room!

Mouse Trap Gallery: Perfect for craft room!

TADA! I glitterfied (hah, gotta love made up crafting words) six mouse traps to spell out “Create” right over my craft desk. I always have little pieces of pretty string, torn out pages from magazines or quick notes for future projects cluttering my space so this is a perfect way to get them out of the way but still within reach. And it’s pretty GLITTER! Who doesn’t love glitter?!

Mouse Trap Gallery: CreateMaking these with the days of the week would also be a great way to work through a To Do List. You might be dreading the day’s activities but at least you have a shiny and pretty gallery wall to look at!

Mouse Trap Gallery: Perfect for catching loose papersI’m still shocked at the quality of the glitter I got at the Dollar Store. Look at how fine and bright it is! My husband didn’t understand my excitement. In fact, I believe his actual words were, “Isn’t all glitter the same?” Humph. Silly man. No worries, I know my awesome crafty readers will be excited with me!

And just in case you’re more of a video tutorial kind of person, I’ve put together another Tried & True video tutorial for making Mouse Trap Clips! YAY!

Just a few things about that video…
- I had just finished running the Dirty Girl Mud Run so I’m looking extremely TIRED!
- The discoloration on my right wrist is from a bee sting (more on that later!)
- We do not have a pack of wild hyenas living with us, that’s just my crazy boys in the background.
- We’re growing Sweet Peas to grow on a outdoor teepee (more on that later too!)
- I was too impatient to align the mousetraps correctly with a level so they’re totally crooked. Going to have to go back and fix them. You would think I would learn, huh?

Hope you enjoyed this simple and easy way to make a Mouse Trap Gallery Wall! Don’t forget to check out the original tutorial to make each individual Mouse Trap Clips in under 15 mintues. I’d love to see all the fun variations you guys come up with so jump over to the Tried & True Facebook page to share!

“Just Let It Go” Coloring Print & Giveaway

Just print out the "Let It Go" Original Coloring Print from Tried & True and color any way you want!

(Scroll to the bottom of this post to download your own copy of the “Let It Go” Coloring Print!)

A few weeks ago, I was sent a copy of Amy Doh’s latest book, Creative Lettering, and while I enjoy most of their publications, I looooooove this book so much! It’s been on my bedside table ever since I received it because I pour over each and every hand-drawn letter before I fall asleep each night. It kinda makes for funky, alphabet-loaded dreams but it’s just so much fun to look at.

Creative Lettering from Lark Crafts reviewed by Tried & TrueI’m funny when it comes to craft books. I thoroughly enjoy reading them and flipping through all the beautiful pictures but I very rarely read through a craft book more than once. Maybe it’s because I don’t want to be too influenced by the ideas and begin to think they’re my own (I hate it when that happens!).

Book Review from Tried & TrueThat’s so not the case with this book! It’s all about inspiration and becoming a better artist. I loved reading about the different pens and pencils each of the artist enjoys using. I’m a mechanical pencil/Pigma Micron 01 kind of girl. As for my favorite letter…hmm, I’m still on the fence on that one. Maybe “A?”

Alphabet sample from Creative LetteringEach of the artists featured by Jenny Doh also share one of their original alphabets which are all just amazing. One of my favorites is Lighthearted Gothic from Madeline Tompkins. Makes me want to break out my calligraphy set!

Original sketch and finished coloring print

Inspired by Creative Lettering, I thought it might be fun to show you guys how one of my Coloring Prints starts off. You can see that my “Let It Go” print started as just a small image I penciled onto gridded paper. After I was happy with the letter and image placement, I went over the pencil with a thin-tipped pen (Pigma Micron 01) and carefully erased all the pencil markings.

I thenĀ  scanned the image into my computer (with my phone!), cleaned up the lines a bit in Photoshop and adjusted anything that just doesn’t look right. If you look closely you can see I decided to change the “J” from lower case to upper case. Can’t give you the theory behind why I did that…just didn’t look right, you know?

Just print out the original coloring print and color inThen I just format the page to the desired size and upload it to the world wide web. All you have to do is print out the PDF file and color it any way you’d like! I used my Spectrum Noir markers again because of the paper I used. If you’ve seen some of my other Coloring Prints, you know I usually print out my images on heavy-textured watercolor paper but I decided to change things up a bit and go with vellum paper this time. Seemed to worked nicely with the airy feel of this print. What do you think?
